Overview
“.
. . to strengthen the sense of community by encouraging support
of community education and expansion of community education
programs for everyone.”
Approved in 1990 as a direct support organization of the public
school system, the Miami-Dade Coalition for Community Education
involves the collaboration between school and community to
address the educational, health, social and economic needs
of our neighborhoods, and to promote programs that meet those
needs. We recognize that as demographics, resources and technology
change, so must the scope of services provided by the school.
The community school affords opportunity for all generations,
as well as promoting academic advancement and enrichment for
the youth of our county. It often addresses basic everyday
needs, such as health and childcare, thus minimizing the destructive
forces of stress within our families. The scheduling demands
of our active society are accommodated by classes offered
during non-traditional hours, including after-school, nights,
weekends and even holidays. The community school is an essential
compliment to the conventional school system, for it fills
in the blanks at the end of the day.
Community schools not only serve the community; they build
community. They deliver the programs, services and schedules
needed in each individual neighborhood. When people feel valued
by their school, they reciprocate by supporting that school
and school system. Community education is a win/win situation!
The
Coalition encourages business, health services, government,
social agencies and civic organizations to be active participants
in developing resources and collaborative efforts to benefit
lifelong learning.
The
Miami-Dade Coalition for Community Education is qualified

are tax deductible.
