When each of us starts our professional academic life, we begin with a dream and determination. Research states that a third component can greatly increase success. That is someone who believes in him or her and can help them shape the dream into reality. David Levison in The Seasons of a Man's Life, states, "Mentoring relationships are most complex and "developmentally important" relationship in a person's life"

Mentoring is a way to help students make the most efficient use of their own resources. It is a way to bring out the best of students' capabilities.

Mentoring helps students set goals and then reach them. It is accomplishment oriented and can focus on a variety of areas. Mentoring can be short term or long term, one-on-one, or in a small group.

Through mentoring someone takes a special interest in helping another person succeed. Many of our students in Miami-Dade County Public Schools need that caring person to help them succeed.
