Parent Involvement

Parental/Family Involvement is an essential element in effective education. Studies show that two factors are necessary to improve learning: a sound instructional program, and consistent involvement of parents and other influential adults. It is, therefore, the policy of Miami-Dade County Public Schools to actively bring together families, schools, and the community in the education of the children of this school district.

Within Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the term “parent” refers to any adult–mother, father, older sibling, aunt, uncle, grandparents, guardian, or mentor–who plays a significant role in the care of a student or students enrolled in our schools. Although parental and family involvement is very specific in focus, it is recognized that all those concerned with the education of students must work together cooperatively to meet the needs of students.

Schools have the responsibility to involve parents, and parents have the responsibility to get involved in schools. Here, the term “school” refers not only to the customary kindergarten through grade 12 program, but also to the: prekindergarten program, the adult/vocational education programs, and to community schools.

This site will serve to provide ongoing pertinent information to parents/families. It will be a helpful source of communication from and with the district, and we invite your input and feedback.
