Bertha Abess Children’s Center, Inc. (BACC)
Inducted 1994
This organization has provided over 154,000 volunteer hours
and more than $4.5 million dollars of in-kind services to
their partner school. The Center is a non-profit comprehensive
day treatment program which serves approximately 1,200 emotionally
handicapped (EH) and severely emotionally disturbed (SED)
Miami-Dade County students. The blending of M-DCPS teachers
with BACC clinical staff makes it possible to provide high
quality programs for students who would otherwise need residential
care or short-term hospital stays. Students stay in school
and learn to become productive citizens. In addition, BACC
provides parent/guardian education and training, staff development,
and student monitoring and growth.
